⁵³When the Israelites returned from chasing after the Philistines, they plundered their tents. ⁵⁴David took the head of the Philistine and brought it to Jerusalem, and he placed his armor in his tent.^[a]

⁵⁵David Is Presented to Saul. When Saul watched David go forth against the Philistine, he said to Abner, the commander of the army, “Whose son is this young man?” Abner answered, “As surely as you live, I do not know.”
